Timaaj Hassen
Back to Our Roots Project Coordinator
She/they
Timaaj Hassen (she/they) is a community organizer, facilitator, event curator, and the Back to Our Roots Project Coordinator at the Enchanté Network. She is based in Tiohtià:ke, the unceded territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka, colonially known as Montreal.
Timaaj has built and developed programming for Black, Indigenous, and Racialized 2SLGBTQI+ communities for over seven years and has seen first-hand that connection and collaboration between movements is a direct path to an equitable future. They are well-versed in the complex activity matrix that is building, growing, and reporting on community programming and networking. As a former Youth Intervention Worker and Street Worker, they have first-hand experience in fieldwork with client outreach and broader service networking engagement in Montreal. Timaaj works from a transformative-justice, anti-racist, feminist approach that informs her ethics and practice in the communities and organizations she works with.
As a Black, Queer, gender-nonconforming person, their lived experience allows them to authentically and honestly work to create space for communities affected by systemic oppression on Turtle Island.
When not working, Timaaj’s simple pleasures are karaoke, dinner parties, and dancing.
