The Rainbow Resilience Fund

The Enchanté Network is the largest network of 2SLGBTQI+ community organizations across the country, with over 200 members in each province and territory. When hate events happen, our members are the ones that are there – not just during Pride month, but throughout the year. They are the experts in their communities, the ones who are on the frontlines of hate, supporting 2SLGBTQI+ individuals.

In 2022, we saw a 64% rise in police-reported hate attacks against 2SLGBTQI+ people. As the years progressed, from legislative decisions to online attacks, the world has seen a rise in anti-2SLGBTQI+ rhetoric. The Rainbow Resilience Fund will allow organizations in Canada to respond to emerging needs following a hate attack, as well as support organizational planning and strategizing to prevent hate and protect 2SLGBTQI+ communities

Our framework ensures that the fund’s resources are distributed equitably, addressing systemic disparities and uplifting marginalized voices. By prioritising race, indigeneity, and disability, we acknowledge the unique challenges faced by individuals and communities at the intersections of these identities. We strive to create a more inclusive and just society by centering the experiences and needs of those who have historically been marginalized and disproportionately impacted by discrimination and violence.

Through this fund, The Enchanté Network will provide one-time financial assistance ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 per recipient 2SLGBTQI+ organization to prevent and respond to anti-2SLGBTQI+ hate crimes. This funding is intended to empower these organizations in confronting discrimination and creating equitable opportunities, enabling their full participation in Canadian society.

What do we hope to achieve?

Key Funding Objectives
  1. Support for initiatives and programming that work toward the elimination of anti-2SLGBTQI+ hate, including acts of violence, discrimination, racism and prejudice;
  2. Opportunities for community engagement and involvement;
  3. Long term strategies to build awareness and change attitudes.
Resilience Building
We prioritise initiatives that focus on education, training, and advocacy to combat hate, discrimination, and violence. Additionally, we support mental health and well-being programs tailored to the specific needs of the 2SLGBTQI+ community, including those living with disabilities.

Support for Racialized 2SLGBTQI+ Organizations
We prioritize funding for organizations led by individuals from racialized communities, recognizing the importance of amplifying their voices and experiences. We aim to address systemic racism and promote racial equity within the 2SLGBTQI+ movement.

Centering Black and Indigenous Perspectives
We emphasize the unique experiences and expertise of Black and Indigenous 2SLGBTQI+ individuals and organizations. Our framework seeks to address anti-Blackness and colonial legacies while fostering collaboration and solidarity between diverse communities.
Disability-Inclusive Approach
We ensure that our fund supports organizations that actively work towards enhancing accessibility for individuals with disabilities. This includes physical accessibility, communication support, and the use of assistive technology to ensure equal participation and representation.
